My Kind of Fall

I love me some fall. There's nothing quite as refreshing to me as the crisp air that comes through the window in the morning mid-September. Summer's wet heat has finally dissipated but not entirely disappeared, and although my boyfriend's husband's sweatshirt is a wardrobe must-have, sandals are still acceptable, too. Whether it's because I no longer feel like the air is drowning me, or because I'm getting in a last-ditch effort to enjoy what's left of summer, I find that I spend a lot more time outside - hiking, walking, sitting, breathing.

So, to celebrate the best season ever, here's a post dedicated to why I love fall.

I love pumpkins.

Pumpkin spice latte. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin smoothies. Pumpkin tarts. Pumpkin cake. Pumpkin cheesecake. Pumpkin cookies. It's no wonder I gain weight in the winter. I blame it on the sugary stuff I need to pair my pumpkin with.

Well, this year John and I are venturing more and more into GAPS territory, which means that it's quite possible for my pumpkin obsession to not pair with insane weight gain.

Although I won't be abandoning the world's best-ever pumpkin pie recipe, here are a few GAPS-friendly SUGAR FREE baked pumpkin goods I plan to enjoy:

GAPS-friendly Pumpkin Cookies!
GAPS-friendly Pumpkin Pie Muffins!
And, just maybe, if my best-ever-super-unhealthy pumpkin pie recipe doesn't satisfy the craving, I'll make some GAPS-friendly crustless Pumpkin Pie!

I love decorating.

Although my fall decor isn't quite out yet, last year I Gave Thank in style and this year I plan to do one better. I have a craft in mind to better my door wreath - out with the old summery decor -
and in with a wreath that makes you feel all cozy inside when you walk in the door.

Maybe I'll try making some felt flowers in some pretty fall colours!

Finally, I love apples.

Specifically, apple cider. Although apple cider does take quite a bit of sugar (and I'm really trying to kick sugar here), I am determined this season to make a sugar-free or low-sugar apple cider.

Oh, and apple picking. The combination of cozy sweaters and pulling stuff off trees and the beauty of a vineyard is pure joy. Let's hope The Caterpillar thinks so, too!

  1. Sammy Sam, have you simply looked into eating REAL sugar rather than refined sugar? SOO much better for you... less guilt lol

PS Fall IS lovely. Until you hit November. :|

  2. I haven't thought of that! Do you mean cane sugar? I still want to stay away from anything that quickly becomes sugar, white breads especially, but I'm open to long-term changes like unrefined sugar!
