This update is from January 1 2011
Well, it's 2011. It's nearly 2 pm and I'll sum up last night by saying, we laughed, we danced, we got a hotel (not the original plan) and J is currently trecking over to a self serve laundromat. Also Casting Crowns is playing over the radio and I've never welcomed such good musical company so happily.
Our party was at Madame Tussauds and it was generally awesome. We ended up at the AMC theatre which I think means we found an underground tunnel between the two because we didn't step outside until around 2 AM... Which means, deductively, no we didn't see the ball drop :( - we tried, we maneuvered every possible exit but the police literally had the entire building barricaded off which meant nobody was going anywhere and we may as well enjoy every second.
We did see the actual ball pre- drop as our party was only 1/2 block from 1 Times Square. It was BEAUTIFUL! I don't regret missing the drop, though. The crowds were a little ridiculous and aggressive and
while most of the cops were actually extremely nice and helpful, a few of them were just as bad as the worst of the crowds.
Times Square began really filling up around 3 - we navigated our way through the heart of it and it was so exciting. The whole place (generally) had a really great energy despite the competition for a square foot of standing room. Unfortunately I had no Anderson Cooper spotting but that's probably for the best because, you know, I'd probably be bailing my way out of jail right now for attempted kidnapping. We did see the back of Ryan Seacrest's head but I feel like that doesn't count?
Today is just a sleepy day but tomorrow the real touristy goodness begins - peace in 2011.
