Christmas marathon 2010

One week. Two people. Three families: Christmas Marathon 2010.

Until John and I have enough children to excuse ourselves from running across Ontario like bandits, we'll celebrate our Christmas season as though we were one delicious pie, serving up a quarter of ourselves to those we love: 25% for us, 25% for John's parents, 25% for my Mom & 25% for my Dad.  Which is so much fun!

We are fantastic at being fair.
Coming from a divorced family myself makes things a little trickier but a lot more interesting and as we find with every holiday, the 25% never seems to be enough for anyone. Through years (and years) of post-divorce counselling between the ages of 9 and 15 I have come to accept that both my mom and dad are separate families and need to be treated as such: no mixing the dates, no mashing the time, and no "well, you chose to divorce". Which puts in a little bit of a roadblock when it comes to John's non-divorced side which sees the his-side/my-side divide as though it should be 50/50. Which would be nice if we had more than 1 week to spread among 4 families (us included), but just not realistic. But that's not even close to the only concern: the 25% isn't enough for anyone - not for my mom, not for my dad, and not even if that 25% is on the Prime Time Special time period of the Christmas season - Christmas eve & morning. No matter how far we stretch ourselves and try to be fair and just, it's just never enough for anyone - so I guess that's fair!

 We had a total blast!!

John made sticky toffee pudding from scratch - it doesn't look too appetizing in this photo, but it was amazing!
